UW Regents Oppose Hike In Tuition

The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents opposed a proposed tuition increase for state and out of state students. The plan would raise state tuition from 236 to 300 dollars and out of state tuition from 750 to 1000 dollars. The regents adopted a resolution asserting that economic factors should not deprive youth of higher education opportunities.

Prayer marchers arrested in Birmingham sit in for desegregation

In Birmingham on Saturday thirty-two kneeling demonstrators were arrested for parading without a permit as Eugene Connor, the police commissioner, urged swift action. Led by Rev. Fred L. Shuttlesworth, the group was escorted to City Hall and then to the Southside jail amid no violence. The arrests bring the total since sit ins began to 67 with 35 convicted for trespass, most fined and jailed. one defendant, Rev. James L. Harris, remains free on appeal bond.

Washington AP reports a dramatic fall in unemployment could push any enacted tax cut to January 1, delaying Kennedy’s July 1 withholding reduction target. Bowles Named Ambassador To India

President Kennedy selects Chester Bowles to serve again as ambassador to India, replacing John Kenneth Galbraith who resigns in June. A Peace Corps volunteer in Tunisia submitted a homemade tax form to the IRS in Little Rock. Bus Plunge in Rain Kills Seven on Feather River Canyon

A Greyhound bus from Reno to San Francisco plunged 120 feet after sliding off a rain slick highway 17 miles east of Oroville. Plane lands on highway in Michigan crash

On I 94 near Watervliet Michigan a Piper Tri Pacer piloted by Clifford Hall developed engine trouble and landed on the westbound lane. The aircraft rammed the Nichols family's station wagon but no one was injured. The plane and car were damaged and the plane was towed to Watervliet Airport.

Boy Fatally Injured In Playground Collision

Peter Engsberg a 13 year old from Lake Mills died after a PE class collision at Lake Mills Junior High. He sustained head injuries and was transported to Wisconsin General Hospital. The Engsbergs reside in Lake Mills. Cause of death pending determination.
