Kodiak VFW meets at night above the Men's Store to adopt a resolution urging Governor Gruening to provide quonset huts and naval hospital resources for local veterans medical care. Washington reports the AFI union accepted invitations to negotiate as part of averting a looming maritime strike set for Monday. Masters, Mates & Pilots and the Pacific-American Shipowners association had refused. CIO maritime unity leader Joseph Curran voiced optimism. Harbor survey seeks boat damage figures in Kodiak

Merrill Coon, chairman of the Harbor committee, told at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon that a questionnaire is being prepared to determine the economic value of the small boat harbor in Kodiak. It will be sent to all interested parties with emphasis on damage to privately owned boats due to harbor facility shortages.

The Culinary Union met yesterday in a heated session and approved a new contract to be shown to operators next Monday. Operators have until the day before the next meeting, Friday, to act on the contract.

ACS Officer To Take Charge In Kodiak Station

MSgt Charles Marcus arrived at Kodiak Wednesday and will command the ACS office after Sgt Gervis Floyd departs after over two years. Floyd and his wife plan to leave in November and Floyd will be reassigned after furlough. Marcus, a 20 year Army veteran formerly from Chicago, has served at Attu and will bring Mrs Marcus to Anchorage this Sunday.
