City to vote on 480000 bond for street work Oct 14
Kodiak taxpayers face a special election October 14 to approve a 480000 bond for a city wide street improvement program. The project cost is about 745000 with the city and Alaska Public Works sharing. A 3 mill levy would back loan repayment over 20 years.

Louise Gregoroff Dies After Illness in Kodiak
Louise Gregoroff 76, longtime Kodiak resident, died at home after months of illness. Widow of Senafont Gregoroff, born in Kenai July 19 1878, she was famed for Elks Mothers Day prizes as the oldest mother. Survived by many children, a sister, 33 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren. Funeral 2 pm at Russian Orthodox Church officiated by Father Gerasim Schmaltz.

Miss Kathleen Lepper is named Public Health Nurse for Kodiak and will arrive next weekend. Clarence Dizney, president of the Kodiak Health and Welfare Council, was informed Thursday by the district nursing supervisor in Anchorage of Miss Lepper's appointment to the vacancy.

Popeye II Drifts Ashore Missing Since Sept 11
Tom Eley skipper of the Popeye II, a 36 foot midget tug, was found ashore near Narrow Cape by William Robertson Jr and John Chya after drifting from September 11. The vessel left Whittier for a weeklong trip to Seward with provisions for two, and an unidentified passenger aboard earlier reports. Eley, in weakened condition, recounted a lone 17 day drift marked by motor failure and scarce supplies. Deputy Marshal Dizney aided him, and a wire to his wife followed the rescue.

Skinner Case Heard in Anchorage Court
A 12 man jury began hearing the case against jail guard Charles Skinner for allegedly refusing attorney Paul Dupler access to client Alex Mazoff at the jail on August 6. The trial, led by Special Commissioner W G Ellis, will proceed to a preliminary hearing on charges of assault. Skinner also faces assault counts.
