Kodiak Woman Dies in Auto Near Fairbanks

Antoinette McCauley formerly Petroff of Kodiak, about 30, died in a car on the Steese highway near Fairbanks after a man, Clarence Knapp 35, was found unconscious in the vehicle. Police said the gas tank was empty and ignition on, with no foul play suspected. McCauley had moved from Anchorage two months earlier to work in Fairbanks laundry settings. Knapp was hospitalized in serious condition.

Camp Fire Girls Organize Local Kodiak Unit

Girls of Kodiak and vicinity ten years and older will form a Camp Fire Girls group sponsored by Community Baptist Church alongside Boy Scouts. The first meeting is next Thursday at 7 30 pm in the church social room, with mothers required to accompany daughters. A committee including Mrs Jeanette Bailey and Mrs Lois Colvin formed plans and will lead the group.

Police Chief to Resign for Mining Move

Police and Fire Chief Jack Allman will resign his city post after the war ends. He plans to move to Fairbanks to return to mining work. Allman took the chief job on May 1 this year.

Club To Stock Game Birds Here

The Kodiak Sportmen's Club plans to stock pheasants chukkers and valley quail locally with letters to breeders. Jack O Connor of the Fish and Wildlife Service has been contacted about willow grouse and spruce hens for release. Bird pens will be built after plans are approved and membership cards are in demand as souvenirs of Alaskan duty.
