Maritime wage plan spurs CIO AFL seamen demands
The Maritime Commission moved to implement terms of a White use proposal settling seafarers walkout. CIO and AFL seamen would receive wage increases, funded partly by private shipowners and the Federal Treasury. In Seattle, CIO Port Agent Jack Ith sent 600 men to support pay uniformity across the highest prevailing rates. The Independent Union of Marine Firemen planned picketing for similar raises. Two stove fires caused alarms but caused no damage. A Kodiak land case seeks to determine restricted deeds affecting natives, filed in Anchorage against Krug and Parks, with Tom Nachand of Kodiak Mercantile named as land owner plaintiff.
