Arvid Larson of Bellingham disappeared Wednesday aboard the halibuter Betty J near Spruce Island while en route from Kodiak. The crew say he left the galley alone after meals. a search by Coast Guard aircraft and another vessel found no trace. Larson was unmarried and survived by his mother and sister. Mrs. W. D. Cutter, mother of Rudolf Janckel, arrived from Washington DC for a visit.

Hygienic Ship to Visit Kodiak and Westward Villages
The Hygiene floating clinic of the Territorial Public Health Department will visit Kodiak this week en route westward and call at Jak island villages. Equipped with X ray for tuberculosis screening, it offers smallpox and diphtheria immunization for communities. Stops include Belkofsky Point Chigaik Perryville and other Westward points for three weeks then returns to Kodiak to visit more villages. A fisherman in Afognak, flown to Kodiak by the Navy, was brought to town jailed in an escape proof strait jacket. He allegedly tried to chop a house and leaped from a cliff. Inside his cell the guard found the jacket on the floor as the prisoner said it was too hot.

Drydock Sinks En Route from Adak to Seattle
A 25,000-ton floating drydock sank about 260 miles south of Kodiak after storm damage while being towed from Adak to Seattle. The U.S. Apache led the tow. Canadian destroyer Crescent evacuated all personnel without loss of life. Survivors were taken to Seattle.

900 Crabs Tossed Away in Alaska Shipment Collapse
