Seven Recruits Arrive for Training at Ft Greely
Seven army rookies have arrived at Ft Greely for a 13 week basic training under 1st Lt. Louis E. Goff and eight enlisted trainers from Ft Richardson. All enlistees and draftees in Alaska will be sent here after the program ramps up, with a possible 50 more expected after the new year. The Recruit Training Detachment houses with other soldiers, and the recent Ft Greely refurbishing coincided with the arrival, aimed at preserving decaying buildings and supporting a larger troop level.

Airliner Crashes North of Edmonton Canada
A four engine Northwest Airliner crashed and burned 45 miles north of Edmonton Alberta on a flight from St. Paul Minnesota to Anchorage. Two are reported dead and three critically injured. The plane was listed as missing shortly after takeoff when it lost contact with the tower.
