Students Eye Examinations At Kodiak Navy Base
Eye tests for 32 Kodiak school students are underway at the navy base dispensary as a community service. Dr A Holmes Johnson and Nurse Marion Curtis led initial screenings, with 16 tests completed and some students already fitted for glasses ordered from the states. The Navy provides the testing free. glasses cost may be covered by the Kodiak Health and Welfare Council funds for those unable to pay.

Christmas Seal Campaign Receipts Fall Short
The TB Committee chair Rev KR N Wilkinson reports slow Christmas Seal sales with about 600 envelopes mailed last Friday containing two dollars worth of seals each, totaling only around $100 by yesterday. A follow-up drive will be launched in weeks. Rotary Club members have already subscribed for additonal purchases, and further groups will be urged to participate. Priest Due Soon At Russian Church
Joseph Heitman, president, said the Russian Orthodox Church here expects Father Alexander Popoff to report before November 1. A wire from Bishop John Zlobin in Sitka said the priest will come from an unspecified place. He is married with four children. the family will join later. The church has lacked a priest since Father Gregory Gleboff left two years ago.

Hughes Reelected School Head in Kodiak District
John C. Hughes was reelected president of the Kodiak Independent School District for the coming year at a regular board meeting. Dr A Holmes Johnson was elected treasurer and William Stone named secretary while Robert Hall joined as a new board member and will act as secretary until Stone returns. Three floor plans for a new school, drawn by Anid Johnson of Everett, were reviewed as the district plans a new building. A KEA plant switch cut power for 15 minutes, resuming at 9:31.
