Members of the House Merchant Marine and Fisheries Committee will hold hearings in Kodiak on Wednesday to discuss fish traps in Alaskan waters. New Bus for Shopper Run Introduced in Kodiak
Tenora Rockney owner of the Shopper announced a two tone 12 passenger Inter national bus with a metro body. The vehicle built in Gulf Conn was shipped east to Seattle then loaded on the Terminal Knot for Kodiak. The ship is due to arrive about Oct 30. Mrs John Cushing of Kodiak Telephone Co and her seven month old daughter Cheri will head to Sitka today.

Chandlers Quit Kodiak Mission Work After Four Years
The Rev and Mrs Chandler long time Baptist missionaries in Kodiak plan to leave for the United States in November. He resigns from the Women s American Baptist Home Mission Society and will move to Seattle with their three children Lee Patty and Verne. Health concerns drive the departure. They arrived in June 1945 with Mr Chandler serving as assistant superintendent then superintendent and continuing Evangel mission boat work on Kodiak Island.

Paying Bills for City Paving Assessed on Alaska Way
Property fronts along pew paving receive bills from the city clerk. Assessments completed are payable in three equal installments on November 10, January 10, and April 10. A hearing will be held Monday at 7:30 pm in city hall to hear objections and allow owners to point out errors. The Bank of Kodiak paid in full. Lee C. Bettinger paid in installments. Total paving cost near 57,000 with two-thirds charged to property owners about 35,000 or 17 per running foot. city pays the remainder.

Snow Free Walk Being Poured At Kodiak Theatres
A four inch slab of Zonce lite insulation was poured in front of the Orpheum Theatre in Kodiak to form a snow and ice free sidewalk. Inner concrete layer will house steam pipes tied to the theater heating system. J G Martz notes Norman Fjeldhem oversees the project with Polar Bear Safe remodeling. Former City Wharfinger Charged With Embezzling
F C Woods, city wharfinger from February to September, is held in the US Federal jail on embezzlement of public money. A mayor signed complaint claims $2400 taken. Woods bound over to the grand jury, bail set at $2500, with hearing delayed until April unless he waives. He has turned over his last two pay checks reducing the alleged debt to $1600.

Rebuilding Float At City Dock Progress Report
Workmen under William Worth continue assembling a new 400 foot city dock float. Forty foot sections are joined by chains on 40 foot piles with 2 by 12 decking. A guard edge, small walkway, and a ramp are included. A smaller L shaped float is planned for mooring smaller craft. Weather has delayed progress.

Eugene Dennis a communist leader was sentenced to five years imprisonment and a $10 000 fine. He was the first of 11 top communist leaders convicted of conspiracy to overthrow the United States government. Nine others received the same sentence. Robert Thompson got two concurrent three year terms and a $10 000 fine.

Pilot Francia Brownfield Found Near Tangle Lake Cabin
Anchorage reports Francia Brownfield, missing since September 4, was located in a cabin near Tangle Lake, 25 miles west of the Richardson Highway. No other details were released. Three hunting companions returned to Anchorage at different times. Celia Belahoulek has returned from a short vacation.
