Boy Caught After Theft Ends Juvenile Crime Span

A y1 year-old youth from a vil on the mainland was detained in Kodiak after deputy U.S. Marshal Paul Herring traced him to a boat. He admitted breaking into Grimes Packing company warehouse, stealing a dory with outboard, paint, and other items, then taking rifles, ammo and food to Spruce Island before tossing the guns overboard. No action pending word from the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Last Rites Held For Joseph Lohr

Joseph Lohr age 60 died at Griffin Memorial hospital after heart failure treatment. Born Kodiak March 30 1884 he lived here all his life working as a fisherman. Funeral at the Russian parsonage with Father Gerasim Schmaltz officiating and burial in the Russian cemetery. Survived by two nephews Nick Lohr and Fred Lohr and a niece Alice Eklutna. Preceded in death by his parents.

Alternate Plan For Hospital Transfer Draws Awaited

City Warns On Sewers

City council issues final warning after a special meeting urging all residents to apply for sewer connections by the November deadline or face penalties. Federal Works Agency auditor J. B Sledge notes the city must enforce the ordinance to begin revenue flow for the system. About 500 potential connections exist in Kodiak but only 137 have applied so far. The ordinance requires city residents to connect, pay a connection charge, and a $1 monthly sewer fee.

Jackson Not Guilty In Liquor Case

A jury in the U S Commissioner’s court returned a not guilty verdict for T S Jackson on a charge of selling liquor without a license. Lt Paul W Schaffner led the private prosecution. soldiers Norris and Cesena testified they bought liquor from a boat but did not identify Jackson. Jackson and witnesses said their boat trip was for pleasure and no liquor was aboard.
