Navy Day observance planned at Naval Base Kodiak

Navy Day events set for October 27 at the Naval Operating Base Kodiak include open ships in port Navy aircraft display diving demonstration and Community Chest drive. Bus service will be increased with extended schedules. The day honors the Continental Congress act of 171 years ago and Roosevelt's Navy policy with the slogan Your Navy Victor in War Guardian in Peace. The base Carnival promises Auto and Home show prizes over 2000 dollars games dancing and refreshments. A plate program will be published next week.

Carnival Offers Prize At Community Center Halloween

A Halloween carnival at the Community Center sponsored by local groups will award a $50 cash prize by midnight drawing. Children can win a comical costume prize, with the junior dance group performing Russian Polka and Gypsy dances at 8 30. Volunteers are urged to supply home baked cakes and candies, with names given to Mrs Viola Sipprell or Mrs O A ND.

Fur Raising investigated by Department of Agriculture official

J. R. Leckley of the Petersburg experimental fur farm arrived on business to explore local fur farming potential. The Alaska inquiry surge includes 18 to 20 requests for the Kodiak area. He will also visit Dr. Pryer’s fox ranch near Ouzinkie to study platinum foxes.

Pajoman Sells Kodiak Mercantile Store

The Kodiak Mercantile Company founded in 1941 by Carl Pajoman was sold to Loran Whittington of City Meat Market and Tom Nachand who runs the store. The deed cites about 20000 total price with 10000 cash and other consideration. A five year lease with a five year renewal was included. Whittington and Nachand will continue operations with Nachand as manager. Pajoman departed by plane to Seattle.

City to seek land for playground and school sites

The city will file a formal application to the General Land Office requesting Blocks 7, 8, 11, and 12 in the East Addition for a playground already under construction and Block 3 for a future school site at the end of N. Brookly n avenue.

Officials Chosen for Kodiak Chapter Forming

At a meeting to organize a Kodiak chapter of the Alaska Crippled Children's Association held in a quonset hut on school grounds Thursday evening the officers were chosen: President Mrs. Liela M. Tesarik vice president Mrs. Norman Sutliff secretary Mrs. Rudolph Janekel and treasurer Mrs. Bertha Pratt. Karl Brunstad became the first member and donated 5. An anonymous donor contributed 120. City Council eyes price based on net revenues for water sewer

The city rejects a 50 percent price tag on Federally owned water and sewer systems and will calculate a fair price from net revenues before offering to the Federal Works Agency. The water system costs $210,927 and the sewer system $135,350.96, totaling a suggested selling price of $173,138.98.

Removal of meat ceilings this week brought back on local markers beef bought at higher prices and unsold when the ceiling was rolled back. Local meat supplies have also been augmented by reindeer meat displayed on local cafe menus brought from Alitak by Tiny Cichoski.

First Aid course seeks more enrollments in Kodiak

The Kodiak Chapter of the American Red Cross and Kodiak Community Center urge police officers, firemen, and others to enroll in a joint First Aid course taught by Richard Codd, Red Cross field director at NOB. Sessions meet Monday evenings at the Community Center with no charge.

Relief Ship Date Due for Alaska Ports

Relief ship dates are expected within a day or two as relief cargo plans are prepared for Alaskan ports. Towns report severe shortages of food, clothing, and essentials. independent carriers urged with chartering from Alaska dealers to avoid delays. Kodiak warns of shortages if calls to other ports precede it. Nome-bound Cordova will call Kodiak en route about November 1.
