Two Black Bears Return Trip Planned From Adak
Two black bears arrived in Kodiak this week aboard an Army boat and remained as Wildlife Service Officials decide their disposition. Plan is to return them to the Kenai Peninsula after serving as mascots in Adak where they were kept since birth. The bears have outgrown the pet stage and will be released back to their native habitat.

Finishes Training Brother On Furlough and Pilot School
Warrant Officer J. G. Jack J. Ross, formerly with Siems Drake at Kodiak, has graduated from the Navigation Training Section at Camp Gordon Johnston Florida. He completed four weeks in Coastwise Piloting and celestial navigation and will return to the 363rd Harbor Craft Company with basic piloting skills for Army vessel operations. His brother Private Marshall B. Ross arrived in Kodiak on 30 day sick leave. their wife is the local draft board clerk and Marshall has been stationed at Anchorage.

Halibut Fishing Closes In Area Three By Nov Thirty
The fisheries commission announced that halibut fishing in area number three will close November 30 regardless of catch. Through now the total is 5,320,000 pounds short of the 27,500,000 pound limit for the area.

Curfew Penalties Expanded for Parents Under Night-Time Rules
An amended curfew ordinance now holds parents or guardians liable for youths roaming streets after hours. Violations carry a misdemeanor fine up to 10 dollars or up to 5 days in jail, with harsher penalties for repeat offenses. Children under 16 must be accompanied after 9 pm from Sept 1 to May 15, and after 10 pm the rest of the year, except on specific errands.
Dynamite Freighter Sinks After Collision Off Point Grey
A dynamite laden freighter named the Squid was rammed by the Canadian Pacific vessel Princess Joan in fog near Point Grey Vancouver. The ship sank within ten minutes carrying 400 cases of dynamite. The five crew members escaped to the Princess Joan and the explosives remained inactive.
