No Surprise In Election In Kodiak Mayor Re-elected
Lee C. Bettinger was reelected mayor of Kodiak for a fourth consecutive one year term with 99 votes. New council members Hinckel Shannon and Neseth won two year terms with votes 92, 97 and 95 respectively. Robert Hall defeated Robert Acheson for Independent School District board with 84 to 56. Only 113 ballots city, 148 school. Write ins included Edna Kraft and others. Officials noted many voters were accompanied by Business and Professional Womens Club and Teamsters Union workers.

Logan Aims to Raise Sunset Fishing Boat Wreck
Salvage master Bob Logan on the Kodiak Salvor said attempts to raise the ill fated Sunset, which sank near False Pass in early June, were unsuccessful. The Salvor will return next spring to Cape Panofkal, where the vessel lies in 112 feet of water, one mile offshore. Five men died in the capsizing after a large wave. Logan will winter at Cordova with Joe Wilcox joining the crew. Plans call for docking near Gibson Cove to base Kodiak salvage operations.

Two Kodiak Women Die In Tragic Accidents
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Fred Sundberg 39 who died after a fall in her Cape St. home. She slipped at the foot of a narrow stair striking a washing machine. Her husband found her body about an hour after death. She was born Edith Norton in Kodiak in 1910 and survived by three children, siblings, and her father. Funeral was led by Father Gerasim Schmaltz. Also reported is the death of Mrs. Dunia Cohen 45 in a house fire behind the Kodiak Hotel. Cohen died upstairs during the blaze while retrieving a robe. Fire alarm at 11:50 am. house gutted. Cohen leaves six children. Neighbors aided, Red Cross offered assistance for clothing. Fire started in a clothing pile. no stove proximity noted. CONTINUED on age 4.
