City Election Tuesday in Kodiak with single slate

Kodiak voters face a Tuesday city election featuring a single slate of Progressive Party candidates. Mayor Lee C. Bettinger seeks a seventh one year term while council nominees include W. W. Root Al Miller and incumbent William Worth for two year terms. Bud Metzar seeks the one year council seat. School board features William Stone and Gil Jarvela for five years. Stenlund Returns From Sweden Visit

John Stenlund returned to Kodiak after a summer in Sweden visiting his sister and brother. He travelled by air to Seattle, then by train to New York, with a stop in Minnesota to see another brother, before boarding a Swedish passenger ship. He visited Stensele, Sweden, and left May 28 returning August 16, finishing with a Norwegian liner to New York and a Seattle flight home.

Miss Ann Zaldaris district nursing supervisor arrived in town on business of her office. The new public health nurse Miss Kathleen Lepper is expected to arrive on today’s plane.

Libel Suit Moves to District Court

The United States against H F MacDonald was moved from U S Commissioner Rose Walsh to the Third District Court on Monday. MacDonald faces criminal libel charges filed by Mayor Lee C Bettinger in October 1950 amid the city election. He appeared before A M Vokacek seeking a venue change and the case was sent back to Commissioner Walsh in Anchorage. No trial date was set by the Third District Court.

Elks Carnival Opens With Outdoor Events and Dance

The Elk's Club fall carnival starts today and runs through Sunday with events outdoors on Brook lyn Avenue weather permitting and moved inside if rain. Plane Down On Ice Island

An emergency landing at Fletcher's Ice Island near the north pole damaged a -47 aircraft during a resupply mission. No injuries occurred among 12 aboard. Pilot Capt Richard Marsh of the 10th Rescue Squadron suggested replacing two damaged propellers would enable the craft to fly out.

The Kodiak High School student body will publish the monthly Island Star nine issues. Miss Cherie Stover, business manager, announced the staff plans to dedicate a quarter of space to advertising. Staff members solicited ads this week. Mrs. Walter O Brien returned home from Minneapolis after several weeks of medical attention.
