Resolution Pushes Sales Tax for Kodiak Harbor

The Kodiak Chamber of Commerce adopted a resolution urging the City Council to consider a consumer sales tax to help fund a small boat harbor. The measure faced opposition from Dorothy Clark, Bill Worth, and Bob Acheson, with Larry Wodlinger warning of added burdens on small businesses. AVA seeks funds for Alaska tourism drive

Frank Whaley executive director of the Alaska Visitors Association visited town to discuss Kodiak participation in a fundraising drive. The AVA reports a $100,000 legislative matching fund, promising $2 from government for every $1 raised. AVA will allocate 25 percent of pledged funds to restore historic sites or attract tourists.

Fisheries Hearings Schedule Night Meetings in Alaska

Public hearings on proposed regulatory amendments will be held by the Fish and Wildlife Service in Cordova Homer Kodiak Anchorage and Dillingham from November 28 to December 3. Administrator Donald L. McKernan and assistants will preside with Kodiak session at Fisherman's Union Hall at 7 30 p m. Fishermen and others are urged to attend. The article also notes Mr and Mrs John Fletcher returned from a trip to Seattle Richmond California and San Francisco where they saw the Orpheum cinema and a large Christmas parade before facing travel delays due to heavy snow.

Hall Couple Return From Three Week Trip

Bob and Helen Hall reunited Wednesday from a three week journey that carried them to Washington DC and Denver before ending in Los Angeles. They flew Seattle to Dayton to visit Helen's family then to Washington DC on business and finally to Denver to see Bob's brother. Helen remarked Kodiak looks good to us and there’s no place like home.
