Three Killed As Truck Plunges Over Cliff On Alaska Route
A Marine liberty truck plunged 3800 feet down a cliff near Shelikof harbor in a rain swept slipshod stretch. Three Marines died Pvt Francisco Cano Castillo Pfe Frank John Sobolewsky and Pvt Robert Lawrence Stone. One taxi driver Jobo Biglove aided authorities. The crash occurred around 1130 pm as the truck returned to base from town. The preliminary probe shows occupants were ejected as the Dodge panel carriedall went over the edge.

Fire crews respond to chimney fire at Iron Hill residence
The fire department was called at 6 20 pm Wednesday to the Balde Young residence on Iron Hill where a chimney had started. plywood smoke was extinguished before the truck arrived.

Navy Donations Surprise Kodiak Center and Hospitals
The Navy donated 2750 dollars to Kodiak Community Center 2550 dollars to Griffin Memorial Hospital and about 300 dollars to the local Crippled Children’s Association chapter. Gifts came from a Community Chest Drive at the base and are at the recipients’ discretion. Ouzinkie Man Rescued From Sinking Navy Barge
Fred Chernikoff of Ouzinkie was one of eight crewmen rescued from a Navy self propelled barge about 500 miles south of Dutch Harbor after it sent an SOS and became submerged in a severe storm. The Clover, a Coast Guard ship, pulled the men off as the Bugara searched and the barge sank.

Strike Ties Up Buses At Tagura Transit System
Bus service in the Tagura Transit System on Mission road and between the base and town has halted since Tuesday after Teamsters Local 500 voted at a Monday meeting to pull drivers from the run. The union cites overtime pay disputes. drivers named include Magnusen McDonald Longeor and Gerrish. Taxicab operators are running 9 special taxis daily at bus rates to aid base workers.

Jail Vote Due Again
