Beukers announce engagement of Helen Beukers Panamaroff

The couple's engagement is announced by Mr and Mrs Jan Beukers for Helen Beukers Panamaroff to George Panamaroff. The wedding is set for Saturday December 6 with a reception at the Elks Club following the ceremony. The Alaska Game Commission closed trapping on Kodiak Afognak and Shuyak islands until mink and marten establish populations. The FWS backs reintroduction efforts by planting animals on the islands.

Eisenhower Wins Presidency In Landslide Across Nation

General Dwight D. Eisenhower won the presidency with the largest popular vote in U.S. history, defeating Adlai Stevenson by roughly 30 million to 24 million. He swept key Northern and Western states, plus several Southern states, while Truman offered congratulations and pledged cooperation. Senate and House results favored Republicans with a shift toward GOP control. Alaska and Hawaii governors saw transitions as Ike prepared to take office.

Rotary Plans Christmas Party in Kodiak

The Kodiak Rotary Club will sponsor its annual Christmas Kiddie Party with a huge tree set up between Dad's Barber Shop and Log Cabin Liquor Store. Alvin Miller announced the project as committees organize the event funded by weekly luncheon fines. The party moves from the Orpheum to an outdoor site near the tree.
