Union Oil to Begin Kodiak Operations Within 30 Days
Union Oil Company plans to start operations in Kodiak within 30 days. A floating bulk plant of 8200 barrels, valued at about $250,000, will be towed from Seattle and installed beside the city dock near the navy base after piling is driven. Permanent tank farm work will begin on leased city land, with six compartments for fuels and lubricants. Consignments Jack Hinckel and Lee C Bettinger were named local agents.

Center Drive Near Goal about 700 dollars still needed to reach the 6000 operating fund quota for 1950. William Lamme reported to the Board of Directors this week. With several business houses and individuals yet to be contacted, final totals are hoped to be over the top. Kodiak Fisheries pledged 100 and Whiz Fish 100 as the largest contributors. Mrs Scott Named PTA President
Mrs Ralph Scott was elected president of the Parent Teacher Association at a Thursday night meeting attended by about 45 people. Offiers include Mrs Vivan Kilgore as first vice president, Mrs Jim Reese as second vice president, Mrs Jay Tolbert as secretary, and H F MacDonald as treasurer. The PTA will not sponsor a hot lunch program this year due to space limits at the Community Center which now houses a first grade class. The next PTA meeting is December 1.

Liquor Dealers Plan Jamboree in Kodiak
Kodiak Liquor Dealers Association will host a November 18 barn dance in the Kodiak Ice and Cold Storage fish shed. Proceeds benefit a central Kodiak Benefit Fund with 80 percent kept locally and 20 percent donated to the Alaska Crippled Children’s Association.

Assistant Named For FWS Refuge Work on Kodiak Island
Raymond N Breuser, after two seasons with the Fish and Wildlife Service on Kodiak Island, is named refuge assistant to Frank Beals, the local refuge manager. Breuser came from Boise to Anchorage by air and joined the staff midweek. Beals had just returned from Day Harbor on the Kenai Peninsula where goat transplant attempts failed and will be tried again next year.
