Montmartre Night Club Sold To James Pierce
One of the largest local property deals in years saw Montmartre on Bay Road sold this week to James Pierce from F. Snyder, former owner of the Echo Bar. Pierce will run Kodiak’s tonight and keep Ip’s Tavern, with Tim Ilmore as manager, as part of the same operation. The two story club opened in February 1942, cost over 330,000 to build, and the sale included liquor stocks for an estimated total around 45,000.

Clam theft convict in city magistrate court
John Morrison was found guilty on a charge of stealing clams and sentenced to 10 days in jail plus a $25 fine. Mrs. Pete Magnusen owned the clams found in Morrison's possession in a sack near the Holt residence in Tugura district. A neighbor reported seeing a man with a sack of clams he claimed to have dug himself.

Indictments for Embezzlement In Kodiak and Anchorage Cases
Former acting Kodiak postmaster Jacque Pardieu left for Anchorage after being indicted for embezzling 1100.89 dollars from the United States while in office. Pardieu pled guilty in Anchorage and asked for delay in sentencing to April 1, hoping to make restitution. he returned to Kodiak yesterday. Also indicted was Alphonse L. Chouinard, former Railway Express Agency agent, charged with embezzling 7165 dollars between June 1 and November 30 last year. he left for the States after release on bond. Witnesses included Bank of Kodiak president O A Torgerson and deputy U S Marshal Paul Herring.

Homes To Be Canvassed For National War Relief
Homes of Kodiak will be contacted today by upper grade and high school girls to raise funds for the National War Fund. Canvassing began Wednesday in the business district and downtown collections near halfway to the $3000 goal. Alaska chair Z. J. Loussac will visit Kodiak soon to boost the drive, as locals aim to complete the goal quickly. The fund supports relief societies, war prisoners aid and seamen’s aid with low Alaska admin costs.
