Carl Pajoman learned his father Charles W Pajoman died of natural causes in Estonia on October 26 1942. The Masonic Lodge in Seward secured the news after years of silence since the 1937 departure to visit home. The stepmother, who lived in Afognak, survived in Estonia.

Station Wagon Hits Liquor Store
A Navy station wagon parked in front of Club Unique slid downhill at about 2am Thursday and bumped Log Cabin Liquor, breaking a wall behind an electric refrigerator. The wagon escaped damage, but bottles of liquor were knocked from shelves and several bottles broken. Police reported no serious injuries or damages beyond the store’s wall and overturned equipment.

Boy reports bear sighting near Island Lake road
Donald Clark a seventh grade student and son of Basil and Mrs Clark told this week he saw a bear on Island Lake road while alone with his dog. He climbed a tree from which he watched a small bear cross the road and disappear into the woods. It has been years since a bear was reported in the Island Lake area.

Lynch Obtains Gravel Plant From Anchorage Purchase
Pat Lynch arrived from Anchorage after arranging shipment of a mobile gravel making plant bought from surplus property. The 30 ton unit, with diesel engine, will reach Kodiak in about a week and be set up at the Navy dock. Location of the plant is not yet decided.
