Navy Role in Alaska Affects Inhabitants and Coast Guard
The Navy shields Alaska's 33,000 mile coastline by protecting sea lanes, conducting submarine and anti submarine operations, and resupplying the Dew Line. Kodiak and Adak host a continuous watch to shadow entering vessels while the Alaskan Sea Frontier coordinates weather data, Arctic resupply, and crude petroleum transit. Rear Admiral Arnold McKechnie administers both the Sea Frontier and Seventeenth Naval District from Kodiak.
