Power Barge Tootsie Rescued After Ice Collision
The Coast Guard cutter Bittersweet reached the icebound power barge Tootsie near Port Heiden in Bratel Bay and took her in tow. The Tootsie, a fishing boat for Egegik Packing Co, had left Pt Heiden a month ago for the north with thirteen aboard, all reported safe after days in ice.

Bears From Kodiak Headed To Cincinnati Zoo
Three seven week old Kodiak cubs were brought to town by Charles Madsen on his return from Alaska. The cubs will be flown to the Cincinnati Zoo. Madsen also returned with two satisfied bear hunters. A Denver man presented a foot bear to the Denver Museum. Another rancher from Loveland captured a 10 ft 6 in bear. This was the pair’s second Alaska trip. They filmed their hunt and captures, including seals and sea lions.

The Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a city-wide clean up drive next Saturday joining with the community center which had planned a campaign around its grounds. Hearing on Aleutian bases seeks time limits and protections
