Kodisk City seeks federal matching funds for street projects. Alaska's share totals 6,178,599 with a 10 percent Territory match of 617,860, bringing the total to 6,796,459. Council to send City Manager to Juneau for Alaska Highway and Public Works Board meeting on May 6.
Legislation pending in Congress on the Federal Aid Airport program will be reviewed at the Alaska Aeronautics and Communications Commission Spring meeting. If enacted, bills would raise the matching fund ratio from 75 percent to 90 percent and extend the program to fiscal year 1963. Officials from the Bureau of Land Management visited Kodiak during the start of Alaska's fire season to investigate range fires. Fire Control Officer Archie D. Craft warned that uncontrolled burning harms natural resources and erosion. last year saw a record 5 million acre loss of forest and range lands. He urged ranchers to burn only under strict supervision with fire breaks and tools on hand, and to apply to the BLM for range burn permits with an operation supervisor in Anchorage.
Jim Eggemeyer his wife Marlys and their children Jess aged two and Tenley depart this weekend for Decatur Illinois for about six weeks Jim Eggemeyer will attend the State Association Convention of the BPOE of Illinois He is a former Decatur Lodge member and now serves as steward of the Kodiak Lodge

Dr A Holmes Johnson is tentatively set to speak at the PTA meeting Thursday May 8 at 8 p m in the high school auditorium. He will discuss his recent trip to Miami Florida for a National School Boards Association convention.
Jess Ballard and Dr Bob Johnson travel to Juneau for the Rotary District Assembly. The district includes clubs from Alaska, British Columbia and Washington. Dr Bob Johnson serves as President and Ballard as newly elected secretary of the Kodiak club.

Bill Lamme was appointed postmaster this week replacing Maurice Briggs who retires April 30 after 15 years in service. Swearing in occurred Wednesday at the post office with officials C A Hoyer and Bryant Brady present.
