BLM Probes Kodiak Rangeland Grass Fires

Officials from the Bureau of Land Management visited Kodiak during the start of Alaska's fire season to investigate range fires. Fire Control Officer Archie D. Craft warned that uncontrolled burning harms natural resources and erosion. last year saw a record 5 million acre loss of forest and range lands. He urged ranchers to burn only under strict supervision with fire breaks and tools on hand, and to apply to the BLM for range burn permits with an operation supervisor in Anchorage.

Bill Lamme named Kodiak postmaster after Briggs retires

Bill Lamme was appointed postmaster this week replacing Maurice Briggs who retires April 30 after 15 years in service. Swearing in occurred Wednesday at the post office with officials C A Hoyer and Bryant Brady present.
