KEA Plans Outlined for Kodiak Electrical Upgrade

KEA outlines a major rehabilitation of Kodiak’s distribution system. Project engineer Victor Rivers says arrival of plant equipment is due after June with completion before winter. The plan includes a dual feed loop, 23 miles of wire, 300 poles, two generating units, and bids for poles and generators. REA loan cost is 310000, and service will not be interrupted during work. Kodiak to Get Phone Service Next Week

Ed Cushing, manager of the Kodiak Telephone Co., announced that with no further winds or delays telephones will ring in Kodiak by next Saturday. A shipment error held up parts, but correct batteries arrived Thursday, will require 96 hours to charge, and the automatic dial system will soon be ready. cables were spliced along Alaska Way, prioritizing service to the business district, and orders are urged to avoid future delays.

Plane Found All Safe After Snow Squall Rescue

Four people aboard the missing Groman Widgeon are safe at Sand Point after being forced down by a snow squall near Balboa Bay eight miles north. Sighted by a Fort Randall B-17, survivors received food and clothing during an eight hour search and were rescued by a Sand Point boat. The pilot is G Shuster of Seward and passengers include Polly Osterback and Mrs Carlson with her infant, sister of Mrs Al Miller.

Unga Man Dies Wednesday

Harry Brugnan, 63, of Unga, died of cancer Wednesday morning at Griffin Memorial Hospital after a month as patient there. Father Louis B Fink conducted services at 240 yesterday afternoon. burial followed in the local cemetery. Born in Holland, he came to Kodiak Island about 20 years ago and never married, losing touch with family in the old country during the war.

Denali Transit From Seattle With Mail And Freight

The Denali departed Seattle on Thursday morning carrying 153 tons of freight to Kodiak including 150 sacks of mail and 3 cars. It is scheduled to arrive by April 2. The Ring Splice sailed March 19 for Kodiak.

Easter Egg Hunt Returns for Kodiak Youth Sunday

Kodiak children from pre school to fourth grade will search for eggs at noon at the community center with the Business and Professional Women's Club hosting. Deputy U S Marshal Paul Herring warned at a Rotary luncheon that Alaska would bear the heaviest consequences in a war with Russia. He claimed 2 to 8 thousand paratroopers could seize Alaska’s military and naval sites today, criticized Navy Pacific spending, and urged better local defense planning amid tough interior winters and the Adak focus. Last Day For Council Sees Last Minute Filings

Two final filings on Monday raise council candidates to seven. Central Labor Council put Harold Sivesind on the slate and Progressive Party backed W G Ellis, with Pat Cannon already nominated by the Progressive Party. Karl Brunstad withdrew last week. Registration closes Saturday afternoon with city hall hours Thursday and Friday evenings.
