Milk shortage hits Kodiak area retail outlets

Sans resh Milk Kodiak and E. E. Bell dairy quit delivery this week, halting town milk supply. The Navy and town had relied on the Bell dairy, which faced a price reduction from 45 to 35 cents per quart and arranged half pint sales at 15 cents, or four for 50 cents, under OPA rules. Dealers were told no further deliveries will be made, leaving the Alaska region with the Bell dairy as the main producer despite a private cows milk portion.

Clinton group considers forming a women's club in Kodiak

On a spring afternoon in Kodiak a group of local men and women met at Vicense to discuss forming a mess and professional women's club. Miss Lilia Morris presented material from a national organization and was named temporary chairwoman. Mrs. Bea Martz became temporary secretary as plans proceed to recruit charter members led by Mrs. Sigrid Wodlinger and elect officers at the first organizational meeting.

Snowy March Continues With 12 Inch Wed Drift

Old man Winter forecasts a final flurry with about 12 inches of snow on Wednesday as spring arrives. More snow falls Thursday and a few flakes Friday. Wednesday’s plane was canceled due to snowdrifts and road crews clear the streets.

The Denali and Lakina left Seattle on Wednesday March 20. The Lakina is to load freight in Ketchikan and should reach Kodiak around March 28, while the Denali is expected about a day earlier.

Manager Resigning From REA Plant Post

Eino M Kainulainen who supervised construction and led the REA plant since its inception submitted his resignation at a board meeting last Thursday. No action will be taken until an REA auditor and engineer report. He gave no reason but cited untenable conditions under the KEA board policies and plans to sell their home and travel to the States with no further plans.

City election filings reach two dozen with labor council aid

Nine council filings and two for mayor plus two for school board closed Monday for the city election set for April 2. With one week remaining 131 voters have visited city hall to declare voting intent. Registration closes next Saturday March 30 at 4 pm. For workers unable to register during the day registrar Myrna Perkins will keep the office open 6 to 8 pm next Wednesday Thursday and Friday.

Krafts Street Dispute Shapes Alley Condemnation Plan

A proposed city alley from Christys bakery toward Town Club splits to Marine Way and a route toward Brooklyn. It would affect Ben Kraft’s land as he plans a building from Knudsen’s fountain to Brooklyn and Alaska Way. Kraft would convey Krafts street in exchange for condemning a land strip. labor group opposed, noting the alley is the city’s only link from Brooklin Avenue to town besides Alaska Way.

Navy Welfare Fund Donates 1000 To Kodiak Center

The Kodiak Community Center drive gains a 1000 donation from the Navy Welfare Fund at the local base. Captain R. R. Pan American to start weekly trans-Pacific charter to Shanghai

Seattle airline Pan American World Airways plans weekly trans-Pacific charter trips for UNRRA starting Sunday. The great circle route will run from Seattle to Shanghai via Adak and Tokyo, using UNRRA charter capacity.

Red Cross to Launch Mid-April Fund Drive

The American Red Cross will hold its annual roll call week of April 15 with Mrs. Merrill Coon as fund chairman.
