Fisheries agent Roy Lindsley announced Kodiak area opening and closing dates for commercial salmon. Uniform closures apply July 15 to 31 with limited exceptions. Barluk Red River districts run June 6 to August 13 and September 10 to 30. Alitak July 5 to 15 and July 81 to August 14. gill nets follow prior periods if escapement holds. Herring quota fixed at 275000 barrels for 1950-1952 with season ending September 30, post quota permitted due to believed adequate fall runs.

Seattle Chamber Visits Alaska This Summer Tour
The Seattle Chamber of Commerce plans a summer Alaska tour by air, with a 12 hour Kodiak stop. Ray Martin, PNA agent, received a letter from Seattle confirming the tour. The chamber secretary read the letter at the Thursday meeting. Lee C. Bettinger reported on his Juneau trip about advancing General Service Administration funds and will report at the council school board meeting Thursday night. Due to a poor Bristol Bay salmon season the Alaska Salmon Industry cannot yet comment on hiring plans. W. C. Arnold, ASI president, wrote the local chamber. the secretary urged hiring Alaska fishermen over stateside workers. Paid up membership stands at 45.

No Funds Yet For School and Water System in Alaska
Mayor Lee Bettinger told a joint city council and school board meeting that GSA funding applications for a new Kodiak water system and a Juneau area school were returned. Land-title issues blocked the reservoir site, with Anchorage’s District Land Office saying land cannot be obtained. Further appeals may be needed. Governor Gruening backs the plan and a $70 million Alaska allotment aids GSA construction.

Water Bill Paid In Full By City Pumping Service
City council unanimously approved charging the private Mission Road Pumping Service $3.50 per month per unit for eleven months of city water use since April 1 1949. A total of 31 homes subscribe to the private line and six within city limits will receive city water applications. The city will cut the private line at the last house inside the limits while outside users receive no notice. The pumping service is owned by John Gibbons and John Hughes.
