Fountain Robbery at Island Plain Store Seeks Suspect
A window glass broken in the side door allowed a thief to enter Island Plain between closing Thursday night and morning. About eighty dollars was stolen from two registers and fifteen from under a toothpick box in a back desk drawer. The intruder searched front and back rooms, piled items, and jimmied a portable typewriter, leaving valuable items including an expensive camera. James Martz, the manager, estimates the total loss.

Meeting Called To Start Garden Club

Center Fund Reaches Over Six Thousand Dollars
The Kodiak Community Center board met with Dr A Holmes Johnson presiding and learned from Charles Madsen that more than $6000 has been collected with a few pledges pending. Almost 5000 books have arrived for the library through negotiations by the American Legion and Pat Wright and are ready for cataloging. A director position is still open and a letter noted that several hundred USO directors should soon be available for such roles.

Hit-and-run Victims Reported Near Shelikof and Mill Bay
Mrs. Lee DuBos was found on Shelikof highway and taken to the hospital after a hit-and-run in the dark. Public Health Nurse Marion Curtis arranged the stretcher and assisted at arrival. no injuries were visible and a doctor released her the next day. Lars Larsen says a car struck him near Mill Bay road, but police reported no investigation. Larsen walked to GM hospital for a head cut and a leg injury.

Tanker Bow Found Capsized Off Kodiak Alaska
In a 50 knot gale and snow storm the bow section of the American tanker Sacketts Harbor was found by the Navy patrol frigate Orlando in a capsized state and down by midships. The hulk was sunk by naval gun fire as a menace to navigation. The Navy tug Sarsi under Lt J S Malayter towed the stern section toward Adak in tow after assisting the Russian tanker Dondass nearby last week.

Survivor Has Baby Aboard Coast Guard Cutter Rescue
A girl was born to a woman rescued from the broken Russian tanker Puente Hills while the coast guard cutter searched the North Pacific. The delivery was performed by Pharmacist's Mate Jerry Bradbury with radio guidance from the ship's doctor aboard.

Ship Crewman William Byrne Found Dead in Stateroom
The body of 34 year old William A Byrne of Seattle, a crewman on the freighter Sutherland, was found in his stateroom shortly after the ship departed Seward. An autopsy at Kodak showed death from respiratory paralysis due to morphine overdose, with a hypodermic needle found in his room. The body is being shipped to Seattle for burial.
