Car Turns Over On Mission Road
A car driven by J. C. Slaton with two passengers veered off Mission Road near the Mission Sunday evening, entering a ditch and turning over. Witnesses Harold Farley and Michael Renthrow avoided collision as the vehicle sped 60 to 65 mph. All three occupants, service members R. A. Harmon H. R. Ragsdale and the driver, were taken to Naval Station hospital and released the next day.

Beat Down Move For Commonwealth In Senate Debate
Senate supporters of Alaska statehood defeated a move to grant Alaska Commonwealth status by a roll call vote of 50 to 29. The amendment would have tied Alaska to Puerto Rico style status with tax exemptions for earnings inside the state. City Sanitarian And Nurse Assignment Approved In Kodiak
City council approved a contract with the Alaska Health Department for a full time sanitarian and a health nurse to serve Kodiak. The city will pay up to 1600 annually for the sanitarian services and provide an automobile clerical support space and supplies to the health center. Budget adjustments divert unused funds to cover an additional estimated 800 needed, with the sanitary engineer to work part time.
