Boat Captain Drowns in Northeast Harbor Incident
Walter Boxie Rourke of the cannery tender Frances fell overboard at 12 30am Tuesday near Karluk amid a large swell. The search continued into the next day without success as Rourke, 40, is survived by his widow and family in Seattle. Navy casualty recovery includes Elmer Bieson of Waverly Nebraska. several other victims remain unrecovered after a small boat capsized near Afognak.

City Approves School Budget For Next Year
The city council approved a school budget of 45560 for next year at a special meeting. Territory funds cover 28395 and city funds 17165, with 1200 to be refunded by the Territory later for out of town students tuition. Last year’s budget was about the same.
