Seven Kodiak Residents Become United States Citizens
Seven residents of Kodiak became U S citizens in a formal courtroom ceremony Tuesday. An overflow crowd watched as Navy band music accompanied the petitioners presentation by George Martin and the oath administered by the court clerk. Dr Gordon Palmer urged civic duty and unity in his remarks while Cmdr Ralph Groom spoke briefly and Peter Ramaglia and Judge J L McCarrey Jr presented certificates. The seven petitioners were William Koumainis Una Malutin Harald Hundhammer Alois Kopun Nadia Kopun Natalina Hobson and Jean Jarvis.

A tentative Fourth of July schedule promises a full day of activities. The program includes a parade and flag raising, children's games at downtown school grounds, Pillar Mountain climb, bicycle races for boys and girls, tug of war for all ages, pie eating and egg throwing contests, boat races from the D and A dock, a soap box derby, a Little League game, a Labor Temple smoker, a Coronation Ball, and a grand street dance to close the day.

Convention Date Set for Nov 6 8 League of Alaskan Cities
The League of Alaskan Cities holds its 8th annual convention in Juneau November 6 7 and 8 with joint hosting by Juneau and Douglas. Ben Kraft came back Tuesday from Seattle after three weeks on business. He also visited his wife Edna in San Raphel for a few days. Mrs Kraft is undergoing medical treatments but may visit Kodiak briefly later this summer.

Council Delays Budget Hit Then Grants Commission Funds
The Planning and Zoning Commission sought a $1,000 appropriation but the council frowned on reallocating funds. They approved keeping expenses within the existing budget and the commission will operate like other departments under the city manager. The council also backed the manager attending the Anchor age building meeting July 24 and 25. It approved acquiring Wallis George’s claimed dock area portion for the cold storage plant and sent a letter denying any extension beyond December 19, 1958.

Along The Waterfront Kodiak Harbor Dredging Nears Completion
Additional dredging at Kodiak Small Boat Harbor entrance approved by U S Army Engineer District Alaska. Manson Osberg to move about 3000 yards of material, widen entrance bar near southeast breakwater, and complete the harbor project. Work expected to finish by July 4 with subsequent dock and berth contracts pending bids due July 1.
