Heavy fines for illegal fishing in Wrangell court
Jack E. Dolan of Wrangell and four crew members on the Thomas E. were fined up to 750 and 500 dollars respectively for fishing in closed areas on Tuesday. All five men received 30 days suspended jail terms. Additional crew members faced fines for fishing in Ayak Bay and Amook Pass on July 25. A total of 6304 pink salmon were confiscated. Other Guilty pleas included three men fined 250 dollars each for fishing during a closed season in Terror Bay with 30 days suspended. Burt McCoy and crew also faced penalties for aerial identification and illegal mesh. Roy R. Lindsley testified as witness. these were the first illegal fishing charges filed this year.

Local Scout Harlow Ahlstrom Returns From Jamboree
Harlow Ahlstrom 14, a Local Scout, returns from the second international Boy Scout Jamboree at Valley Forge Pa, and visits Niagara Falls on a trip east. Forty seven thousand scouts from the United States and 18 foreign countries attended. He toured Washington New York and other eastern cities with 42 Alaska boys and 350 Seattle scouts.

Fournier Construction Worker Dies at Ft Greely Cabin
Faida Frenchy Fournier 56 a construction worker died Tuesday evening of a cerebral hemorrhage around 8 pm in a cabin on Mill Bayrd. Lloyd Bates awakened Fournier at 9 15 pm after John Kennedy notified Marshal Clarence Dizney. A WWI veteran, Fournier had lived in Kodiak two years, came from Anchorage in 1948 to Ft Greely. survived by a brother and three sisters in Little Falls Minnesota who have asked the Red Cross for details. Burial will be in the local cemetery.

Lathrop Killed Under Coal Car in Alaska
Captain Austin E. Lathrop, 84, a noted Alaskan businessman and industrialist, died Wednesday when struck by a coal car at the Santrana coal mine while inspecting a section. A coroner verdict of accidental death was returned. Final rites will be held at the Empress Theatre tomorrow. burial is planned in Seattle next week per his will. Telegrams of condolence poured in from across the territory.
