Elk Season Set on Afognak Island for October Hunt
Alaska Game Commission will issue 50 special elk permits for hunting on Afognak Island from October 1 to 15. Applications must be postmarked by August 1 to 10. Each permit allows one bull with antlers at least six inches above the skull. Eligible applicants pay 25 dollars and must register with commission agents on Afognak before and after the hunt.

Youth Beaten Left On Dock Near Donnelley Acheson
Local youth Tecon Shuravloff was found beaten and drenched on the float by the Donnelley and Acheson dock early Monday. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and refused to explain how he sustained injuries to U S Deputy Marshal Clarence Dizeny before being released.

Radioactivity Study Aims to Date Aleutian Deposits
A three man expedition led by Ted O Bank of the University of Michigan sails to Adak and other Aleutian villages to collect radioactive carbon samples. Joined by Don McClain and H A Miller, the team is sponsored by the Phoenix Memorial Project to determine ages of vegetable deposits and origin of the Aleuts, with Navy support and plans to return in 1951 and 1952.

City Water Declared Fit For Human Use

Enlistment Lengths Probed and Tax Warrants Issued

Salmon Pack Totals by Kodiak District July 15 Update
The Fish and Wildlife Service reports 80,704 cases of salmon packed in the Kodiak District as of July 15. Karluk district catch 288,403. escapement 374,372. Red River district catch 96,125. escapement 110,413. Last year Karluk escapement 375,082 and catch 196,051. Red River lower in both. Alitak district remains very low in escapement and catch.

Senate committee backs immediate federal tax hike plan
The Senate House Economic Committee voted unanimously for an immediate federal tax increase to a non pay as you go basis. Chairman O’Mahoney said reporters that each individual tax bill should be raised 10 percent at once, though no figures were released.
