Della's Is Total Loss After Severe Fire
A fire started in oil tanks behind Della Kinsport's beauty parlor gutted the shop, destroyed living quarters, and burned clothing and personal belongings. The blaze exploded after being noticed by Toni Lindgren, with the Log Cabin liquor store and Recreation parlor singed. Miss Kinsport and Mrs Chernoff escaped unhurt, aided by Marine Sgt. Blas. Kodiak Fire Department and a navy base truck fought the flames. The building, owned by the George Moe Estate, is a total loss. Kinsport plans to leave Kodiak after settling business and insurance matters.

Film on Sunken Boat to Be Shown July 18
A thirty minute film detailing the recovery of a three and a half million dollar canned salmon cargo from the sunken Diamond Knot freight ship will be shown at the Orpheum theatre on July 18 at 2 pm. Admission is free. The film was produced by the Fireman's Fund Insurance Co of San Francisco and is sponsored here by the Rotary club.

Seattle AP reports four Bristol Bay fishermen drowned in separate incidents this week. Names include Gustav Olson of Seattle Ole Lamvick of Portland Hjalmar Harju of Kalama and Oscar Peterson of Woodland. A headless body was found near Holiday Island and identified as a torso missing limbs and clothes. An inquest will determine identity and cause of death Monday per Commissioner Anna May Vokacek.

The Kodiak Naval Defense Sea area is opened to commercial fishing for the 1948 season with restrictions. Fishing north of 57°44' must be 1000 yards offshore. No entry or passage through the area.
