Coast Guard Patrols Halibut Areas Near Hinchinbrook Island
Coast Guard air facility at NOB flies patrols over halibut areas 3 and 4 closed July 5. Area runs from Scotch Cap lighthouse at Unimak Island to Cape St. Elias. This week mail and freight were delivered to Cape St. Elias personnel and Hinchinbrook Island lighthouse.

John Aga Dies At Larsen Bay
Funeral services for John Aga long time Larsen Bay resident were held. Aga 66 died Friday in a dory accident with his son Richard 17. Born in Bergen Norway he came to Larsen Bay in 1918 and is survived by his wife Alice eleven children and four grandchildren. Harold Aga and Mrs Neese arrived by plane to assist. Neese planned to Seattle.

Fighter Wing Triumphs At Alaska Track Field Meet
The 57th Fighter Interceptor Wing of Fort Richardson led in Alaska track and field events at NOB July 1 to 4, scoring 36 points to win the All Alaska Meet. U S Army of Alaska was second with 35 points, while NOB Kodiak placed third with 254 talleys. The meet drew teams from Anchorage Big Delta Fairbanks and Nome for Alaska s first track and field championship. Edwin Kraft USN added a two mile win after a marathon victory, posting 12 45 for two miles and 47 30 for the seven mile race. The mile relay went to the 57th FIW in 4 04 and Major G G Ruffel USMC won the shot put at 43 6.

Smith Sentenced To Year and a Day for Burglary Not in a Dwelling
Robert N. Smith, shot last November while entering the Doghouse, pled guilty to burglary not in a dwelling in district court and received a year and a day to serve, having been held in federal jail prior. Paul Graham pled guilty to simple assault and received a six months suspended sentence, while denying assault with a deadly weapon. George Cecil Woolfolk and Walter A. James, charged with possession of stolen goods, left for Anchorage to appear before district court after grand jury indictments.

El Toro Leads Field Day On Near Island Route
A wild bull from Tom Felton's escaped Saturday and roamed El Toro area, dashing through town and upsetting a potential catcher. It then reached the city dock before being corralled. Dewitt Fields of the Mission was bruised in a separate incident while attempting to restrain the animal.

Halibut Boat Repaired In Drydock
The B. C. Producer, a halibut boat from Vancouver, returned to the fishing grounds last weekend after a day in Alvine and Gibson's dry dock in Kodiak. It had lost its rudder and propeller and was brought in Thursday night by the Coast Guard cutter Bittersweet. Repairs were completed the following day by Alvine and Gibson.
