Kodiak Fourth of July Parade Opens Celebration for All

Kodiak observes a large Fourth of July celebration with a 10 am parade starting at Krafts and Knudsens along Alaska Way to South Mill Bay Road ending at the school grounds. Judges will pick best floats costumes and bicycles while marching bands from Kodiak Naval Station join. Children’s races games and a flag ceremony follow at Marine Way and school grounds. Highlights include water ski and motorboat races near Donnelley and Acheson docks, a Base Town Marathon and Junior Marathon, greased pig contest and pole climbing, with vendors selling balloons hats and gear. A special Kodiak Transit Co bus runs base-town route during the day.

Kodiak Coast Event Schedule Parade and Marathon Stage

Schedule of events lists a morning parade forming on Brooklyn Avenue proceeding along Alaska Way to South Mill Bay Road, with flag raising at the school grounds and Chaplain Peter McPhee speaker. Afternoon activities include junior and base town marathons, pie eating, tug of war, beer drinking, water skiing, motor boat races, horse racing, and dancing at the U.S. O. for service personnel along Marine Way and surrounding venues.

Delinquent Tax Sale About to Be Published in MIRROR

A final notice of sale for Kodiak delinquent property will appear in the MIRROR after records are checked at the U S Commissioners office. Judge Anthony J. Dimond signed the sale order. native possessory rights and deeds are excluded. The city may set a sale date per law pending record review. The National Guard Bureau will survey Alaska for a potential Air National Guard. Former Air Force personnel are invited to contact local Guard HQs in Anchorage Fairbanks or Juneau for information. Beating of Guard Triggers Kodiak Jail Break

Four young prisoners escaped Kodiak U S Federal Jail after brutal assault on guard Fred Solberg 60 as dawn raid sparked island wide search. Fugitives Martin Squartsoff Raymond Noya Tecon Shuravloff and Richard Leroy Larson 19 to 20 facing charges including larceny burglary and attempted rape of a child. Solberg hospitalized with severe head injuries. Police marshal and Marines comb coast and roads while cannery crews and fishing boats warned.

Stolen Plymouth Recovered by Marshals near Fort Abercrombie

Marshal Dizney and McKinley located the stolen Plymouth in a building at Fort Abercrombie late yesterday. Officers traced four sets of tracks along the beach toward Ouzinkie as they planned arrests last night.

Halibut Vessel Grounded Near Narrow Cape

Seven halibut fishermen reached shore after their 65 foot two masted schooner The Wizard ran aground on a reef near Narrow Cape. A Coast Guard aircraft and USS Mahopac responded. fog and low visibility blamed. The crew, led by Captain C A Kaldestad of Seattle, were rescued as the vessel sat on the beach with a load of iced halibut. salvors planned to pull it off.
