Fourth of July Celebration in Kodiak Planned
Ray Martin announces a big July Fourth in Kodiak with a parade at 10 am, free base-to-town transport, and a bus to Ouzinkie for all. Events include dancing, carnival games, a tug of war, and an outboard race with a $35 prize. Nearly 400 from the All Alaska Armed Forces Track and Field Meet will stay through the holiday.

Teen Agers Corps to debut in July 4 parade
The newly formed Teen Agers drum and bugle corps sponsored by the VFW auxiliary will make its first public appearance in the July 4 parade. Mrs. Robert C. King leads the project with training by Mrs. Edna Lee Dixon and marching drills guided by Mrs. Doc Rochelle. Overseas caps and capes are being crafted by auxiliary members, six majorettes will wear professional uniforms, and the group will be available for public or school events after their debut. Dolores Jones teaches the majorettes for a float in the parade.

Afognak Boy Karl Nielsen Lost In Plane Crash
Karl Nielsen, 17, son of Mrs. Enola Mullan of Afognak and nephew of the von Scheeles, was among 55 passengers missing after a Northwest Airlines crash into Lake Michigan en route from New York to Minneapolis. He had spent 18 months at Salesian High School in New Rochelle and was returning home.
