Woody Island Resident Dies in Ice Accident
Stephen Maleknak, 47, of Woody Island, died at his brother Wieck Maleknak’s home after slipping on the ice late Saturday. He walked to his brother’s house before dying Sunday afternoon. Survived by wife Angeline and brother Nick. Burial on Woody Island Tuesday.

First Trip Outside Thrills For Kodiak Carnival Winner

ACS Construction Begins At Signal Hill Transmitter
ACS Signal Hill project starts this week with six 90 foot and several 30 foot poles by Patrick Lynch Company. Antennas will serve a Shuyak Island repeater link in the VHF circuit to Anchorage. When finished, Kodiak ACS will gain new voice and telegraph circuits. Clark Moore and Walter Garland from Anchorage assist with five ACS men, two week job planned.

General H H Hap Arnold America's ranking airman of World War II and a pioneer of U S military aviation died Sunday at age 63 at his ranch home near Sonoma California He headed the Army Air Forces during the war and had retired to his Valley of the Moon home in June 1946 He was buried in Arlington Cemetery after his body was flown from Hamilton Field California.

Barge Floated For Alvine and Gibson Repair Shop
A barge financed by Alvine and Gibson was floated into place and anchored near Griffin Memorial Hospital to serve as the foundation for a new marine repair shop. Local Boys Debut in Boxing Ring at Base
