KEA Members to Elect Board Next Monday in Kodiak

Kodiak Elect ric Association members will meet Monday March 1 at 8 pm in Blinn's hall to elect a nine member board and conduct other business. By laws may be amended to allow removal of a director who misses two consecutive meetings. nominees include Harvey W. Edward Charles Hopp Emil Knudsen and others. The Community Baptist Church hosts a series of Latin America forum discussions at the Wednesday Vesper Hour starting this week. Red Cross War Fund Drive Starts In Kodiak March 1

The 8th Red Cross War Fund aims for 125 million nationwide for wartime needs. Kodiak chapter chair Rev Gregory S Morony and War fund chair Mrs Merrill Coon lead the drive starting March 1 with a month of activities and a radio kickoff.

Street and house marker project begins with 60 names

C F Moe started the street marker program this week to place 60 name markers and 2000 plastic house numbers. Posts will be seven feet tall with black on white street names, and reflective numbers will be affixed to buildings. Numbers start at Alaska Way and Brooklyn with directional designations and odd/even sides.

Election Work Under Way

Despite the mayor and Mrs. Kraft being absent due to illness the Printing and Elections committee moved forward with preparation for the April 6 election. City Clerk Catherine Blankenburg was appointed registrar with the registration book open now through April 3. Judges and clerks will be named at the March 8 council meeting, and candidate filing closes 15 days before the election.

Windy Williwaws Start Truckin on Harbor Beach

A vagrant Williwaws blew an Island Transfer van from in front of the transfer office on Harbor Way onto the beach. The truck demolished a skiff owned by Jack Delane, while the vehicle itself suffered no damage.

A Tuesday U S communique said bombers escorted by fighters attacked Japanese positions near Kiska but cloud cover prevented observers from noting results.

Kodiak 5th In 1942 Bond Sales

Bond drive totals for 1942 show Alaska buyers reporting 7,321,552.75 in all issues sold. Series E bonds account for 6,205,902.25. Anchorage leads with 31,488,296.50, while Ketchikan posts 872,820.25 and Anchorage second with 872,288.25. Juneau and Douglas record 699,374.25, Kolink 459,848.50, Sitka 440,288.25, and other Alaska points total 1,369,989.25.

Man Dies On island Ranch

George Scroggs age 45 died Tuesday at his Harvester Island home from a ruptured appendix after a Saturday Kodiak trip. Survived by wife Mary and seven children he had lived in Alaska four years, previously in Kodiak, and ran a livestock farm with partner Carl Killian. Born 1898 in Montag Texas, he was a member of the American Legion. Funeral services branded by the American Legion will be held today at the Community Baptist church with burial in the local cemetery. He is noted as a survivor of the Phyl's St wreck near here last December.

Tax Bue Despite Law Changes

Deputy Internal Revenue Collector A. Vele Callar announced in Kodiak that every earnest 1942 must file a 1942 income tax return by March 15. Taxpayers may pay in four installments or in one payment, with at least a quarter due by March 15, to avoid last minute rush. Penalties for late returns include up to 10,000 dollars or one year in jail, plus 5 to 25 percent of the tax amount.
