Anderson Sentenced for Local Break-Ins and Mission Charge
William Anderson, 25, who admitted breaking into Krafts, D and A, and Don nelley and Acheson, pled guilty to three counts in District Court. He received suspended three year sentences on the first two charges and a suspended six month term on the Baptist Mission window charge. Restitution was made and stolen goods turned over to the Mission to cover the broken window.

Rent Interviews Continue Today
Dorothy D Tyner area rent control representative from Anchorage will be at room 24 Kodiak Hotel today to confer with landlords and tenants re rent increases. She explained increases require prior approval by the rent control office and tenants must be notified before higher rents apply. Rent control remains in effect until March 31 1951 despite city votes. A civil defense meeting for interested persons is planned for next Sunday Feb 25 at 3 pm at the Community Center per George Sonntag.

Community Baptist dedicates education addition in Kodiak
The Community Baptist Church plans a 4 pm dedication tomorrow for its Christian Education Addition. Rev. R N Wilkinson will give the dedicatory sermon What Shall We Bring. The program includes organ prelude prayers scripture reading and choir singing. The project was funded by church members and friends with gifts over 10000 in three years and a Home Mission Society grant and loan lifting total to over 50000. Rev John B Dahl oversaw construction which began in May 1950.

Kodiak Crabs Make Washington Debut
Kodiak's king crab industry gained notice in Washington DC as CBS hosted a banquet featuring the shellfish. Lee C. Bettinger shipped ten fresh frozen crabs by air to CBS employee Hazel Markel who helped arrange the event. Attendees wore crab themed hats and Bettinger said he contacted KEA manager Leon Johnson to attend. Charles Jerling and Charles Anderson reported to Fort Richardson for induction into the army.

Flying Saucers Big Navy Balloons
New York reports a Navy official states that flying saucers were large plastic balloons used in high altitude cosmic ray studies. Dr Urner Liddel, chief of Office of Naval Research nuclear physics, says balloons 100 feet across reach 19 miles high and can drift 200 mph. Balloons known as sky hooks appeared in 1947 amid secrecy due to atomic developments.
