Recess Granted In Rate Hearing In Seattle

Stamp License Needed For Cars
A new federal license stamp for all cars has been issued and is available at the post office through Al King, the postmaster. The Federal Use Tax costs $2.09 per vehicle and expires June 30, with a July 1 price increase to $5 for a full year. The license is transferable with the vehicle and also requires Territorial, city, and hire vehicle taxes.

Fire Gutts House in Kodiaks Business District
Fire gutted a frame residence between Sears Roebuck office and Dad's Liquor in Kodiaks central business district. Rose Martin, owner occupant, suffered second degree burns while fighting the blaze started by a refilled kerosene lamp. Volunteers used multiple engines and water from a sump and army help. interior and personal effects were lost though the structure survived. The historic home, built circa 1900 by Vasilli Balashoff, changed hands recently to Rose Martin for about 4000 dollars.
