Anchorage prepares for the Fur Rendezvous February 15 to 22 with a World Championship dog sled race on a 75 mile course featuring Kit Machnnes from Anchorage against a 25 to 30 strong male field. The festival includes parades, wrestling, art shows, dances, royal coronation, fur auction, and reduced Pacific Northern Airline fares.

PTA Benefit Show Praised By Kodiak Naval Base
On Sunday February 7 a thousand theatergoers praised the Kodiak Naval Base PTA benefit variety show Poop Deck Panic. Master of Ceremonies Win Hoover and the Naval Station Band under Chief A S Bennett opened with a lively pace. Act I featured the Gay Nineties bar room scene with songs and routines of the era including Father Dear Father Come Home With Me Now. Act II offered vaudeville nostalgia with fine ballads and a novelty act. Act III delivered Dixieland by Vince Congialdi and his Windy Five with a vivid set including bathtub gin imagery.

Charles Skinner longtime Kodiak resident and former mayor dies at 78 after being taken to Griffin Memorial Hospital. Born February 10 1882 in Kalamazoo Michigan he lived in Kodiak since 1923 and held union posts in Carpenters and Fisherymen's unions. Survived by wife Julia four daughters a son a sister and seven grandchildren. Funeral at Labor Temple Friday 2 p.m.
