Sales tax vote and annexation narrow in Kodiak
In last Tuesdays special elections Kodiak approved a city sales tax by 117 to 114 and annexed the Mission Road area by a strong margin. City voters backed annexation 132 to 26 with 40 in favor in the area and 28 against. The boundary runs just south of Beachcombers extending a mile long area adding over 400 residents. The Kodiak Hotel was sold to A H Muegge and wife who plan to arrive Feb 15. previous owners were the Marshall Crutcher family.

Georgia Silverwood Dies in Santee Georgia
Georgia Silverwood died suddenly January 16 in Santee Georgia. She is buried in Methodist Cemetery there. Survived by son George Cook in Michigan and husband Percy in Santee. Cause of death not known. The family lived in Kodiak for years where he worked at the Naval Station.

Sutliff Makes Trip After 17 Years Here
Norm Sutliff returned from a two week absence visiting the States his first vacation outside in 17 years. He attended a West Coast lumbermen convention in Portland with about 1500 dealers, spent time in Seattle, and noted pleasant impressions before returning to Kodiak to finish business then catch a flight home. He visited O A Torgerson in the hospital and spent time with Bob Acheson who was in Seattle concurrently.
