Most Leite addition property owners favor the city sewer plan though O K Chandler led a protest petition with under 35 percent backing. Objections were voiced at the council meeting as voting on a bond issue for financing set for March 27.

Permits Required On Kodiak Refuge

Kodiak residents must obtain a permit before building or using cabins within the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge. Noncompliance may lead to permit denial or arrest. A $25 fee applies for on refuge sites with precise location data required. 1962 permits were due in January. Tent camps and temporary structures are exempt if removed within 90 days. Doctor Milo Fritz to Visit Kodiak Clinic and Campaign

Dr. Milo H. Fritz, eye ear nose and throat specialist from Anchor Age, will hold a clinic in Kodiak the week of February 25, via Holmes Johnson Clinic. Appointments must be made before February 22. Fritz, a Republican gubernatorial candidate, will speak to groups about his platform. details of appearances to be announced.

No More State Funds For Airport

The municipal airport plight was presented to Chamber of Commerce members. Funds for maintenance are lacking and the runway is unusable due to an icy surface. Weir said current laws block revenue from operations, urging amendments to tap aviation taxes and possible federal grants to fund improvements. state officials deny further airport funds.

Superior Court Grants 6 Divorces

Judge Edward V. Davis presided a one day session of Alaska's Third District Superior Court in Fishermen's Union Hall granting six uncontested divorces: Hochberger, Bailey, Spencer, Bavilla, Healey, and Fox. A separate maintenance decree was issued in Buckner and Buckner. Stella Agnot vs Miney Agnot also noted. A civil suit DeVeau vs Harris was held over. Local attorney John S. Mansay represented the parties. The court then left for Anchorage.

Herring Ban Bill Urged in Alaska House

Representative Cashel introduced a resolution in the Alaska House urging a ban on taking herring for any use other than human food or bait. The measure seeks to end herring use for fertilizers and related nonfood purposes.

Chamber Opposes Alaskan Guides Association Bill

The Chamber of Commerce, at a Thursday meeting, voted to oppose a bill by Rep. D. Harris to create an Alaskan Guides Association and place guide regulation in a selected commissioner. Proponents argued bonding is unnecessary. opponents warned of detrimental effects and prior failed attempts. Members also approved funding Reed fund debt from ESC and state income, commended George Ameigh Jr. for a Kodiak book, and planned weekly sessions during the legislative session.

Plan Transfer Of ACS To Air Force

The Alaska Communication System will be transferred from the Army to the Air Force starting July 1. Senator Warren G. Magnuson’s Washington office reported. Defense officials said Civil Service personnel currently working on ACS for the Army would move to the Air Force without changing employment status, while Army personnel would be gradually replaced by Air Force personnel.

Governor Signs Work Camp Bill

Governor Egan signed a 1962 legislature bill requiring self insured employers to maintain staffed workers compensation facilities in the state or employ licensed resident adjusters with the authority to settle claims within the state. This becomes the first law enacted by the session.

Wages & Hours Bill Hearing Concluded

Union rep Henry Hedburg called SB93 a bill for little people as the Senate, in a five hour hearing, considered House changes to the wages and hours act before sending to Governor Egan. Hedburg said the measure aids wage earners without union representation. Petersburg baker Gordon Barr urged resisting action, arguing a work week over 40 hours should be illegal.

House Holds Firm On Education Bill

The State House refused to rescind approval of a measure making the state board of education the administrative fiscal head of the education department. It is the first of two Section 26 bills. the second would place the state board of fish and game in charge of the fish and game department and is being redrafted by the legislative council. The bill's return to the House is expected next Monday or Tuesday.
