Cap'n John Bredtkerb Dies at Home in Kodiak
Captain John M. Brodtkorb known as Cap'n John, longtime Kodiak figure and Cap'n Johns Liquor Store owner, died Sunday at his home. A mariner with UNLIMITED master licenses, he sailed oceans, served in WWI, and held roles from cannery superintendent to fox farm manager. Born 1880 in Perth, Scotland, he began seafaring young and settled in Kodiak after years aboard vessels. Funeral arrangements were pending and a later will is being sought. Cap'n John is survived by wife Nastasia and stepchildren. He is believed to have nephews and nieces in Norway.
