Whiz Plans Construction and Fort Greely Sale Change

Whiz plans to build a cold storage plant after purchasing Cannery land from Erskine at the waterfront, with material shortages delaying this season's work. The War Assets Administration changed Ft. Greely surplus sale to Priority status, reserving March 1 for priority buyers and opening to general public March 2. The city received a $3,462.50 tax refund from the Territorial auditor covering 1946 to 1947.

Scouts Plan Observance Week Service at Community Baptist

Local Cubs and Scouts join in a special service at Community Baptist Church to honor Boy Scout week February 6 to 13. The program includes a cub presentation, a tenderfoot investiture, remarks by Scoutmaster Max Folsom, and a sermon by Rev Rowland Wilkinson titled He was a good Scout. Nine cubs earning attendance at the pack meeting joined the troop. Jimmie Heals earned 4 silver arrows for selling meals and cards. Attendance at Tuesday's 42-boy meeting was led by cub master William Stone with aid from Art Larkin and John Gibbons.

Barge Lois Anderson Carries Aleutian Mail Run

The power barge Lois Anderson, captained by Jack Anderson of Seldovia, tied up at Standard Oil dock to run the Aleutian mail route this month replacing the damaged Aleutian Mail. Survivors of the Spencer disaster Jake Osbekoff and Calvin Skonberg rode westward to Chignik, along with Mrs. George Mahle and Mrs. John Gardner, as they traveled to False Pass and Kodiak with a small mail load.

Civic Group Meets Tomorrow for Community Discussion

The League for Better Citizenship will meet at 4 o'clock at the Community Center to discuss their first project and several current civic topics. John Gibbons will report on the consolidated school district petition and its transmission to the District Court, with updates on school finances from Superintendent Thomas Utterback and tax bill reviews by Arthur Else. Max LaLande, president, notes other topics may be discussed if time permits.

Net intake reached 307.48 from the March of Dimes campaign led by Mrs. Mabel Fenner BPW chair. Total receipts by various activities amounted to 394.81 with expenses 87.33. Ball tickets 170 leaked goods 79.65 Star Jewelry 23.50 coins 121.66 with 44 from Idle Hour Bar. Fenner thanked Community Center Star Jewelry WVCQ Orpheum Kodiak schools entertainers leaked sale and the Mirror for help.

Chamber Navy talks end as civilian sales cut in Kodiak

The Navy reached a compromise limiting civilian use of the Ship's Store in Kodiak. Purchases over 15 dollars forbidden, liquor capped at two bottles monthly, auto parts sales banned, and hospital access restricted to base personnel. Local officials call it an ultimatum and plan to seek relief from Congress.

Foss Barge 95 Towed by Tug Catherine Foss

Foss Barge 95 loaded with oil for Standard Oil rested at the company deck Saturday and Sunday and departed Monday morning. The barge was towed by the tug Catherine Foss. Emil Knudsen of the Kodiak Fountain was confined to his home for several days with the flu.
