Scroggins Sentenced To One Year In Federal Prison

Lonnie B. Scroggins aged 38 was sentenced to one year in jail and a $250 fine after being found guilty of possessing and selling intoxicating liquor without a license. U S Deputy Marshal Clarence Dizney arrested him in Kodiak and signed the complaint. Jury foreman Joe Kerrigan led the verdict of guilty. After serving one year he must pay the fine or serve it at two dollars a day. Witnesses from Alitak included Kalumpi Larionoff Ephraim Agnot and Kalumpi Kapshan.

Minor Stove Fire at Kodiak Mirror Office

Last Sunday forenoon the Kodiak Mirror office filled with smoke after a plugged air vent on an oil heater. Firemen quickly extinguished the blaze but the smoke lingered days. Editor Pat Bennett discovered the fire and alerted the volunteer department, with Chief Magnugen noting the heater could have caused an explosion.

Buses Serve Red Heart Carnival In Kodiak

Naval Station and Kodiak Transit run two special buses for Kodiak residents to the Red Heart Carnival on February 12 and 13. Free service departs Tony's, drops at Hangar 1, returns on the same continuous 30 minute schedule. Regular Kodiak Transit routes continue daily.

Washington reports the Senate Interior Committee approved the Alaska statehood bill by fourteen to one. Delegate Bartlett cautioned the road ahead is difficult before Alaska can join the Union with one representative and two senators.
