State Takes All Available Lands On Kodiak Island
Alaska reported in Alaska Land Lines that most lands released by the federal government for entry on Kodiak Island and nearby islands have been taken by the state. The State made 395,467.52 acres in General Grant selections on Kodiak and surroundings in December, excluding Marmot and Shuyak islands, plus 115.98 acres under Community Grant. Much of Kodiak remains under federal refuge jurisdiction while Afognak is mostly in a national forest.

CAB Inquiry Into Air Crash Stated
The Civil Aeronautics Board will hold a February 14 Kodiak hearing to probe the Old Harbor Kodiak Airways crash of December 24 1961. An eyewitness roster and involved parties will testify to determine the cause and the deaths of a ten year old boy with the pilot Gene Kingston badly injured. Alaska Department of Aeronautics observer Jack Scavenius accompanied CAB officials during their visit as the recovered aircraft was brought into Kodiak. The hearing is open to the public.

Kodiak CAP Officers Return From Alaska Wing Conference
Four Kodiak Wing Civil Air Patrol officers attended the Alaska Wing Area Conference in Anchorage. 2nd Lt R Leonard 2nd Lt Margaret Cook 2nd Lt Eugene Harding and Senior Member Charles Hamilton participated. During the two day meet Lt Cook and Lt Leonard received Red service ribbons. Conference reports were shared at the unit meeting.

Kodiak Corporation Dissolved After Usury Plea
The Kodiak related case saw Island Investors Inc dissolved and fined up to 500 dollars after pleading guilty to usury. Three officers Mansay Egan and Wolf had complaints dismissed by the District Magistrate in Anchorage. The court suspended part of the fine if indebtedness was canceled and the corporation dissolved.

Mrs Tatiana Mahle Dies After Stroke In Anchorage
Mrs Tatiana Mahle 64 died Wednesday night at Alaska Native Service Hospital Anchorage after a stroke. Born Kodiak October 18 1898 she lived here most of her life. Survived by husband Otto and children Mary Frost Lydia Pemberton Ole Marvin Charles Fred Meyer, siblings Rudy Sundberg Elizabeth Loughran and several grandchildren. Funeral arrangements pending remains return from Anchorage.
