Reds Seek Red Cross Access to POW Camps

The Associated Press reports General Ridgway called for Red Cross access to Communist war prisoner camps in Korea and a reconsideration of earlier refusals. Allies planned air evacuation of 4417 UN prisoners to Japan as the prisoner list processing advanced in Washington with 192 cases left and some listed as killed. In Korea, six U S superforts bombed Sinanju airfield and six B 50s hit Red troop concentrations with no enemy interference.

Fishermen Sue Mainland and Nevers Over Back Wages

Six fishermen filed a third district court suit in Anchorage naming Ed Nevers Mainland Fisheries Inc and others as defendants. The complaint seeks more than $6,000 in back wages and earnings and requests condemnation and sale of the motor vessels Kerry and Ruth used in fishing at Kukak Bay last season with Nevers as skipper and part owner.

Manager Named For Orpheum Theatre In Anchorage

Dick Henricksen of Denali Theatre in Anchorage named manager of the Orpheum Theatre here. Poulson and Schock, new Denali owners, announce sale price around 75000 dollars, including the building. J G Martz previously managed the Orpheum for five years. Jorgen Fredrickson is building owner and part owner of the business. Henricksen to become cashier on takeover January 1.

Rotary Brings Santa To Town Christmas Show at Orpheum

Rotary sponsored Christmas Kiddies Program at the Orpheum Theatre drew a large crowd on Thursday. Santa Claus handed out stockings of nuts candy and fruit to children after two Kodiak Public School productions. Neil Warwick oversaw student songs and the stained glass window set. shop class helped build it. High school chorus performed. admission was free. theatre donated by Orpheum. Funds for stockings came from Rotary fines. Mr and Mrs Alvin Miller and son Ronnie left by plane for the states for medical care Ronnie ill.

Eastern Star Install Officers in Kodiak Chapter No 13

Mrs Bonnie Truitt was installed as Worthy Matron of C E S Kodiak Chapter No 13 with a full slate including Donald Lawvere as Worthy Patron and Mildred Rex trew as Associate Matron. The ceremony, attended by over a hundred members and visitors, featured Installing Officer Mrs Anna Crouch and Marshall Mrs Lois Hain with musical numbers by Zita Van Houten and Opal Lawvere. The chartered chapter operates under General Grand Chapter dispensation, represented locally by Deputy Albert Mountcastle.

Churches Announce Holiday Services

Father Louis B. Fink S J announced church services for Christmas. Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve will be at the Elks Club on Brooklyn Avenue, doors opening at 11:30 p m. Christmas morning masses at 7:30 at Hospital Chapel and 10:30 at St Marys Catholic Church. Confessions Christmas Eve 7 to 8 p m. No services Christmas night. Public invited.

Community Baptist to Hold Early Vespers for Base Pageant

Rev. R N Wilkinson announced changes at Community Baptist Church with evening services moved to 6 pm to allow attendance at the Christmas Pageant at Base tomorrow night. The regular 6 30 and 7 30 services are replaced by a 6 pm vespers and an 8 pm Base program.

The Rev Alexander Popoff announced Russian Orthodox Church will hold Christmas Eve services Sunday January 6 at 6 pm and Christmas morning services Monday January 7 at 9 am with observances at the church.

Christmas Pageant of the Nativity at Kodiak Naval Station

The first performance of the Christmas Pageant of the Nativity will be at the gymnasium on Kodiak Naval Station tonight at 8 pm. Passes through the Marine Gate are available from local church members. A reserved section is for ticket holders. a second show is tomorrow at the same time with participation from all churches and religious groups in Kodiak and the station.

Services Today For Sears Twins

Twin daughters born last Saturday to Mr and Mrs Leo Sears died Wednesday and Friday mornings this week. The babies DiAnn and JoAnn were named. Funeral services are at St Marys Catholic Church at 2 pm with burial in the city cemetery.

Mr and Mrs James Martz returned to Kodiak Monday after weeks in Seattle where Martz received medical care at Virginia Mason Clinic. Delay in return was due to Mrs Martz father’s death. Mr and Mrs Alf Madsen spent six weeks vacationing in Southern California visiting Roy Madsen in Portland. Madsen is a big game guide.
