Construction Of Kodiak Post Office Begins Soon
Construction will start on a new Kodiak post office after favorable weather. Donnelly & Acheson Co. won a 15 year lease with two five year renewal options. The building will occupy 4,145 square feet with 200 for the dock and 6,720 for off street parking. It will be a reinforced concrete two lobby facility with modern lighting heating and plumbing. Maurice L. Briggs is postmaster. In a separate note George Petersohn barely escaped a crash near the Naval Station. his car rolled over after speeding on icy roads, he was unhurt. A birthday tribute was held for Estelle Marlin at the Community Baptist Church. A Sunday School Christmas program is planned for Wednesday evening Nov 21. Griffin Memorial Hospital received a $10,000 Ford Foundation grant as one of six Third Division non profits sharing $171,000. Seward Sanitarium led the group with the largest share. The grants total $200,000,000 to non profit hospitals nationwide.

Kelly Jackson Mitchell was shot in the calf by his father-in-law Ed Parker at about 9 30 p m Sunday after entering Parker s home demanding his daughter return with him. Parker fired into the air then clipped Mitchell as he fled. no charges against Parker were filed. The Kodiak Rotary plans a December 24 Children s Christmas party at USC.
