Fire sinks famed ALF-JIM boat after explosion
Alf Anderson and crewman Ed Higgins escaped severe burns when the ALF-JIM exploded and burned at Port Wakefield. The boat sank in Raspberry Straits after the coast guard towed nearby vessel MELVIN II away. Both men were treated and released in Kodiak. Bears to Play in Anchorage Prelim in February
Kodiak Bears invited for a preliminary game in Anchorage as the University of Alaska hosts the Peru Olympic team. Roberta Sinks Off Vancouver Island After Fire
A 56 foot Bellingham fishing boat named Roberta caught fire and sank off Vancouver Island’s west coast on Wednesday night. Four crewmen were rescued by the Seattle based Kodiak which responded to a distress call relayed via radio at Tofino. The two crews subdued the engine room briefly but the fire reignited.
